Here are some ways to fix the 0×80096004 error in a Windows 10 update.
Open Port 443 or 80 In the Firewall to Fix The 0×80096004 Error
This error is also known as the trust_e_cert_signature error. It is an invalid certificate error that can be fixed by opening ports 443 and port 80 in the firewall for outbound traffic.
Disable The Anti-Virus Firewall
There are two types of Firewalls. One is the firewall in your WiFi/Ethernet router, and the other is the software firewall in your antivirus program. You can check to see if the anti-virus program is being problematic by disabling the anti-virus and trying to perform the Windows update again.
