Application Errors Troubleshooting
Reader Question:
“Hi Wally, I am having problems with Application Errors and wondering how to fix it?“ - Tyler F., Canada
Before addressing any computer issue, I always recommend scanning and repairing any underlying problems affecting your PC health and performance:
- Step 1 : Download PC Repair & Optimizer Tool (WinThruster for Win 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP and 2000 – Microsoft Gold Certified).
- Step 2 : Click “Start Scan” to find Windows registry issues that could be causing PC problems.
- Step 3 : Click “Repair All” to fix all issues.
Setting up weekly (or daily) automatic scans will help prevent system problems and keep your PC running fast and trouble-free.
Wally’s Answer:
Overview of Application Errors
Computers play an important role in work and recreation. Most office computers are configured primarily to help people be more productive with applications like Microsoft Word, Adobe Photoshop, and Outlook. Personal computers at home often have productivity applications similar to those installed on an office computer.
Because home computers are often used both for work and entertainment, they have many other types of applications installed as well. Games, media players, and chat clients are very popular entertainment applications. Applications can be run individually on a computer or several can be working at the same time. In some cases, especially with games, the computer functions much better if only one application is being used at a time.
Most applications can be found on the Start menu and can be launched by clicking on their icon. During installation, many applications will provide an opportunity to create a shortcut on the desktop that can also be used to start the program. In some cases, applications will insert a command that tells the computer to launch the application as soon as the computer starts, chat clients like Yahoo Messenger and Skype are good examples.
What Problems are Associated with Application Errors?
Unfortunately, applications do not always work. In these situations, an application error is often displayed. Each application is unique and designed to work in its own way, so there are many different application errors that can happen.
Most often, application errors occur when a program is launched. Instead of seeing the start-up screens we expect, we are presented with an application error message. “The application failed to initialize properly,” is a common error message that occurs with many different applications. Often this error happens when a DLL file required to launch the application cannot be read properly.
“The program.exe is not a valid Win32 application,” is another common error message. In these situations, the file may have become corrupted or has been changed by a virus that has infected the computer. In most cases, the computer will continue to work as normal, but the application that generated the error message cannot be used.
In some cases, an application error can cause the computer to become unstable. Often this will result in the computer taking a long time to respond. In some cases, it will freeze and the computer will not accept any input from the mouse or keyboard. On rare occasions, the computer may crash.

Is Your PC Healthy?
I always recommend to my readers to regularly use a trusted registry cleaner and optimizer such as WinThruster or CCleaner. Many problems that you encounter can be attributed to a corrupt and bloated registry.
Happy Computing!
